At the Lemur Center 32% of all crowned lemur births are twins

At the Lemur Center 32% of all crowned lemur births are twins, but infant mortality in this species is high in captivity. Of the 69 crowned lemur births at the DLC, there have been 11 sets of twins, but both twin infants have survived just four times (eight infants). Crowned lemur pair Bes and Meritatan were responsible of half of those surviving twin births (four infants) delivering twins in 1992 and 1996 (Pepi and Huny born in 96 are pictured here). One of the four, Geb, born in 1992, is alive and well at the Lemur Center!
