Red Ruffed Lemurs vs. Blue-eyed Black Lemurs by Emma Zoe at the Lemur Learning Homeschool Academy

May 12, 2016 — During the spring session of the Lemur Learning Homeschool Academy, students wrote about two of their favorite lemur species. They compared and contrasted their physical characteristics, behavior (social systems, breeding, communication), and habitat in the wild. They paid special attention to their status as endangered primates. Emma Zoe compared red ruffed lemurs and blue-eyed black lemurs.

The red ruffed lemur (Varecia Rubra) and the blue-eyed black lemur (Eulemur flavifrons) are both critically endangered, despite having some different characteristics. Both lemur species are prosimians, which means “pre-monkey”. This means that lemurs have been around for a long amount of time.
