Lemur Babies on the Move at Philadelphia Zoo
Our lemur babies are on the move! At five-weeks-old, Philadelphia Zoo’s four adorable additions are incredibly playful and inquisitive – as they run, jump, dive, climb and explore their new surroundings.
Black-and-white ruffed lemurs are listed as Critically Endangered in their native home of Madagascar by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to poaching and habitat loss. This birth is important one for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan for black and white ruffed lemurs. Species Survival Plans seek to maintain genetically viable populations of endangered species into the future.
